The term biomimetics comes from the Greek bios (life) and mimesis (imitation). In science, it refers to an approach that involves drawing inspiration from living mechanisms to design effective solutions.

Biomimicry takes living things as its model
Formulating active ingredients in affinity with the hair fiber.
Not masking but rebuilding from within to simply reveal what nature already does.
Introduction
What does
“biomimetic”
mean when applied to hair?
Applied to hair, biomimetics involves formulating with active ingredients that have a strong affinity with the natural structure of the fiber. Hair is mainly composed of keratin, lipids, and bound water. When these elements are weakened by heat, coloring, or mechanical damage, the goal is to restore the material's balance.
The BLOWN approach therefore favors ingredients inspired by this structure: plant peptides analogous to keratin, biomimetic squalane, or fiber-compatible lipids, in order to improve hair resistance, suppleness, and shine.

The difference that changes everything
Rebuilding vs. resurfacing:
two radically different approaches.
Most hair care products on the market work by coating: they deposit a layer of synthetic molecules around the cuticle.
The biomimetic approach provides the hair fiber with the components it needs to regenerate.
The results are no less spectacular; they are simply sustainable.

BLOWN Complexes
8 targeted active complexes.
Each BLOWN complex has a signature name, but behind that name are precise INCI, a demonstrated function, and a role in the overall synergy of the formulation. We detail all of them here, without exception.
The hydrolysed vegetable protein complex is the biomimetic backbone of the BLOWN range. It combines three protein sources (wheat, corn, soy) whose amino acid profile is similar to human keratin. Once hydrolysed, their peptide chains are small enough to penetrate damaged areas of the cortex and bind to them via physicochemical bonds.
This is not a coating. It is a targeted reconstruction: proteins go where the fibre is damaged and stay there until the next wash. With regular use, tensile strength and resistance to breakage gradually improve, as confirmed by panel tests on D28.
- Fills gaps in the cortical protein matrix
- Reduces cuticle porosity
- Improves tensile strength
- Makes styling easier
The densest lipid complex in the range. KERA-LIPID combines plant-based hydrolyzed collagen with five vegetable oils selected for their biomimetic fatty acid profile with intercellular lipids of the cortex.
Each oil plays a specific role: shea provides phytosterols that strengthen the cement layer; coconut provides its lauric and capric acids for deep penetration; castor provides its ricinoleic acid for shine; avocado provides its oleic acid for suppleness; jojoba provides its liquid esters for smoothness without weighing down the hair. It is this precise combination, not a single oil, that explains the 100% score on the Mask.
- Reconstitutes the intercellular lipidic cement of the cortex
- Provides deep nourishment to highly porous hair
- Restores the degraded surface lipid film
- Improves elasticity and reduces mechanical breakage
BLOWN's advanced hydration duoplex. Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and biotechnological polysaccharide from fermentation form a hygroscopic film on the surface that captures moisture from the air and regulates fiber swelling in humid conditions.
These two active ingredients act on two different levels of hydration: one deep down, the other on the surface. It is this complementarity that explains both the immediately perceived softness and the long-lasting hydration without weighing hair down.
- Deep and long-lasting intracuticular hydration (low molecular weight HA)
- Regulation of hygroscopic swelling in humid weather
- Silky softness with no residue or weigh-down
- Reduction of frizz caused by fiber dehydration
The cuticle sealing complex is one of the most precise components of the BLOWN formulation. Its cationic (positively charged) conditioner binds preferentially to damaged areas of the cuticle, which are negatively charged due to oxidative damage.
This electrostatic targeting mechanism means the conditioner focuses exactly where it is needed most rather than evenly across the entire fiber, resulting in a tightened cuticle, a smoothed surface, and restored shine, from the very first application.
- Elective fixation on damaged areas (cationic mechanism)
- Lactic acid restores the pH to the isoelectric point of keratin (4.5–5.5)
- Reseals cuticles lifted by chemical treatments
- Immediate mirror-like shine by smoothing the cuticle surface
The signature complex in our leave-in products. Plant-based squalane is the biomimetic active ingredient closest to natural sebum that nature has produced. The squalane we use is exclusively extracted from olive oil residue, entirely plant-based and cruelty-free.
Its molecular structure is almost identical to the squalene produced by human sebum. The hair fiber "recognizes" it and integrates it seamlessly into its surface lipid film, providing protection against water evaporation and a natural smoothness that conventional oils cannot replicate.
- Restoration of the surface lipid film (direct biomimetic action)
- Protection against transepidermal water loss from the fiber
- Smoothness and shine without residue or weighing down.
- Light thermal protection (up to 230°C in synergy with AMINO-SHIELD)
BLOWN's pH-Gloss complex. Hair shine is directly linked to the condition of its cuticles: well-closed cuticles reflect light uniformly (mirror shine); lifted cuticles diffuse it in all directions (dull, matte appearance). pH plays a decisive role in this closure: alkaline hair treatments (colorations pH 9–10) lift the cuticles; a final acidic pH closes them.
Citric acid and inulin from BRILLANCE-PROTECT work in tandem: citric acid acidifies the environment to the isoelectric point of keratin (pH 4.5–5), inulin forms a smoothing veil on the cuticle that amplifies the closing effect. Two plant-based active ingredients, a precise mechanism: restored shine.
- pH adjustment to the isoelectric point of keratin
- Re-closure of scales after washing or chemical treatment
- Smoothing, non-occlusive film on the cuticle (inulin)

The unique BLOWN scalp complex. Hair health starts at the scalp — an unbalanced scalp microbiome (seborrheic dermatitis, irritation, excess sebum) creates unfavorable conditions for hair growth and fiber strength.
The Leuconostoc/Radish Root Filtrate ferment is a bioferment derived from black radish fermentation. It contains natural antimicrobial peptides that regulate opportunistic microorganisms without destroying the protective microbiome. Unlike conventional antifungal treatments, it preserves and strengthens the natural microbiome — the first line of defense for a healthy scalp. Combined with the gentle surfactant Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PURE-SCALP cleanses without aggression.
- Gentle cleansing without altering the natural hydrolipidic film
- Regulation of scalp microbiome by natural antimicrobial peptides
- 100% gentle cleansing score · Shampoo · J28 Panel
- Prevention of scalp imbalances that lead to hair loss and weakening
Plant-derived amino acids and peptides have a natural structural affinity with keratin, sharing its fundamental constituents. When applied to the hair fiber, they bind to its surface and strengthen its resistance from within, reducing everyday breakage.
A lightweight, invisible, biomimetic shield, not a coating. A protection that works with the fiber.
- Fills gaps in the cortical protein matrix
- Reduces cuticle porosity
- Improves tensile strength
- Makes styling easier

Silicones primarily act on the surface: they deposit a film that smooths and provides immediate shine. Vegetable squalane, on the other hand, is a biomimetic lipid similar to the squalene naturally found in sebum. Thanks to this affinity with the hair fiber, it helps nourish the hair's surface and strengthen its natural lipid film, without residue or buildup. The result is hair that is more supple, softer, and more luminous, without feeling weighed down.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine is a mild surfactant derived from coconut oil. It is obtained by processing plant-based raw materials. It is used for its gentleness, good tolerance, and ability to cleanse effectively while respecting the scalp.
A stable and effective hair formula sometimes requires the use of technical components in very small quantities. In BLOWN Detangler, these elements represent less than 1% of the formula. They are not counted as naturally derived ingredients. The product thus achieves 99% naturally derived ingredients. This figure accurately reflects the actual composition of the formula.
Yes, and not just on the surface. Hydrolyzed proteins are proteins broken down into small peptides, small enough to penetrate between the cuticle scales and reach the cortex's breakage points. Their charge allows them to preferentially attach where the fiber is most damaged, not uniformly, but in a targeted manner. The plant proteins used in BLOWN formulas help improve hair strength, flexibility, and softness. With regular use, the results are long-lasting.
